You know those jeans you love but the fit of the leg is just not working for you? Taper your new jeans already - Indigo Proof has been slinging mail-order tapers since 2018 and still going strong!

Tapers are done the right way here – your selvedge is safe. Chainstitch hemming is also included in this service, so provide your inseam measurement when placing your order (or select Re-Hem for no length off). Hemming is done on a Union Special 43200G, known for making the best hems in the biz, and I’ve got a rainbow of US-manufactured thread for the perfect match to nearly every brand of jeans out there. If you want something different or contrasting you can request any color you’d like in the order notes or on your work order.

NOTE: If your jeans have been worn for ANY amount of time beyond trying on, they must be washed and fully dry before sending for service for the health and safety of your tailor. If your jeans are new and/or unworn, give them an initial wash or soak to relax the fabric and eliminate any shrinkage for the best results on your alteration.

Once you place an order, you’ll receive an email with a pre-paid shipping label addressed to Indigo Proof and work order you can print at home and send with your jeans- it’s super easy! We process orders manually so please allow at least 24 hrs to receive your label. There's about a week turnaround on hems, although it does depend on the current workload, your shipping location and how quickly you ship them to me. If you have a deadline or upcoming trip planned, please let me know in advance so I can make sure you receive them on time.

Price INCLUDES ROUND-TRIP domestic Priority Mail 2-day shipping for jeans made from 19oz denim and up (NOT including extra heavyweight 25oz denim). Bundle deals ship using Priority Mail Flat Rate, and are priced to reflect the cost of shipping multiple pairs (bundle deals are savings on the shipping cost that I extend to you - it is not a discount on the service itself). If you order a bundle deal you will need to ship using specified USPS flat rate packaging available for free at your local post office. If you don’t see an option for the jeans you’d like to send (aka you have one heavyweight and one regular weight, or more than 3 pairs to send) email me for pricing or to set up a custom invoice.

For local service in the Portland, OR area, book an appointment here for a fitting.

THE FINE PRINT: Due to rising postage costs there will be a shipping surcharge added at checkout based on your address for all locations outside of USPS Zone 1 (Zone 1 is WA, OR, CA, NV, ID, MT, WY, UT, AZ, AK, HI, CO + NM), this is to cover the high cost of shipping so I can continue to provide round-trip print-at-home convenience for your alterations! Also please note that due to new policies from credit card processing services a cancelled order will be refunded less the processing fee as these fees are not returned to us. Thank you for your understanding!

Here's a step by step guide to help you measure a jean you already like the fit of, and to give you an insight on how I measure jeans here at the shop!

1. Take out your jeans, unfold them, button the waistband, and lay them out outseam facing the edge of the table in front of you

2. Lift the top leg so the whole inseam is exposed on the right leg in front of you. Take your tape measure, and start with the tip of the measuring tape in the middle of the center crotch seam.

3. Measure following along the inseam stitch to 2 inches down. Mark that point on the inseam, and using a ruler measure out perpendicularly from that mark straight across the leg to the edge of the jean. Note as the thigh measurement.

4. Measure following along the inseam stitch line to just above the top of the knee point. You can usually see the knee marking on a worn pair, and it varies depending on height, but is typically about 12-13 inches from the center crotch seam point for an average height person.

Top of knee point is at 12" on this pair

5. Mark the top of the knee point on the inseam, and measure out from that line perpendicularly. Note as the knee measurement. This will be the midpoint for a full, and the starting place for a half taper.

Knee measurement is 9" on this pair

6. Since the hem is usually bulky and difficult to get an accurate reading on, measure just above the hem across the leg opening making sure you’re measuring the entire leg across from edge to edge. Note this measurement as the leg opening.

For a weird measurement like 8 1/8, just round up to 8.25" on this pair
